    People Are Talking About Us

There are a total of 70 campsites, the majority allotted to tent camping. But the glamping tents, at only $90-$100 per night, are both special and affordable. Comfy beds with warm linens, bedside tables and electrical outlets allow you to sleep under the stars without giving up a single creature-comfort.

Where can you find the right house at the right price, a reasonable salary, and maybe a decent restaurant for date night? We’ve come up with 20 compelling options, all places we’d be happy to call home.  Nevada City makes the cover of Sunset’s Feb 2017 issue on Best Places to Live.  Glamping meets foosball at Erin & Dan Thiem’s Inn Town Campground.

A mile from town, Erin and Dan Theim, who run Nevada City’s perky outdoor-themed Outside Inn, have opened the new Inn Town Campground, where you can rinse off in an outdoor shower at shared bath facilities, and then circle under the pine trees at an outdoor gas fireplace. Tuck under the quilts in a Boy Scout-style tent appointed with cowboy-style furniture and a balcony.

At this year-old campground, the safari-style glamping tents boast cozy beds, vintage furniture and electric blankets — and the camp store sells gourmet marshmallows and sauvignon blanc. Ah, wilderness.

“Customers like to be part of the story.  We really like them being of the story because their experience and their enthusiasm creates the community feel that we are trying to achieve,” Dan Thiem.  Listen to Heath Padgett interview Erin & Dan about building the campground and telling your story.

This brand new campground is opening in this charming Sierra Nevada foothills town this July. The wooded 15-acre Inn Town Campground, which is less than a two-mile walk into downtown, will offer tent and RV sites and 15 plush canvas tents with handcrafted and antique furnishings.

Built from the ground-up by a pair of enterprising parents, Erin and Dan Thiem, it’s got absolutely everything a family needs to have an easy, extraordinary commune with nature.

If your idea of roughing it comes with linen-clad beds, a bath house, and artist-designed lighting, then make a reservation at Nevada City’s new Inn Town Campground, where 15 glamping sites promise a plush place to crash after a day of play in the Sierra foothills.

    “Reinventing the way you camp.”

“…a dream come true.  In addition to camping and RV sites, Inn Town—opened by longtime Nevada City residents Erin and Dan Thiem in July— offers 15 luxury glamping tents decked out with electricity, fresh towels, hand crafted furniture and real beds (most are queen sized).  Each one has unique decor elements (like flag themed headboards or upcycled light fixutres), and many of them also have decks with chairs overlooking lanky pine trees and the peaceful forest floor below.  There are indoor and outdoor showers, foosball tables, a full kitchen to prep meals in, and even a flat screen TV.  How’s that for roughing it?”

You can find a great camping experience in the Sierra Nevada even if sleeping in the dirt isn’t your thing. But it’s a good idea to act fast.

Campsite hub: When the Inn Town Campground in Nevada City, California, needed a new office, the founders got creative: They bought an Airstream so they could work in their driveway–or at the campsite.

The Inn Town Campground is one of those breathtaking rural escapes that’ll give you the idea to sell your home in the city. In the sweeping, picturesque forestscape of California’s Gold Country, adventurers can disappear from the noise, traffic, and chaos of life beneath skyscrapers. The campground gives guests the opportunity to lay their head in a traditional tent, a glamping tent, or a trailer, all while roaming 15 historic acres of more than 2,000 trees and breathing crisp, clean air.

    “A stylish dream camping situation.”

“…to go one better on the glamping scene. Not only does the new Nevada City destination, which debuted on July 1, have the touchstones of relaxed glamp-a-tude, including tents with bedside tables and electricity, but it is, wait for it, in town, so campers only need to stroll a little ways to find restaurants, bars, and shops. In short, you won’t need to drive out into the woods to get a taste of a pastoral getaway.”

Take the woods and create a space that invites people to experience the trees and stars. Build sites with power and hookups. More sites for tents. Then finish with canvas tents complete with decks overlooking the forest. Sounds like a dreamy quest. And a lot, a lot, of work.

This July marked the grand opening of the Inn Town Campground, a passion project from Dan and Erin Thiem (also the owners of the charming Outside Inn). Just 2 miles from downtown Nevada City, and at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, their new campground has 15 themed glamping tents for rent – all with private front porches, electricity and real linens – as well as spots for those bringing their own pop-up or RV. At The Commons, Inn Town’s activity center, campers will find a BBQ area, laundry, WiFi, foosball, ping pong table, and hostel-style community kitchen.

Brought to you by the same people as Outside Inn, a motor lodge in Nevada City, the new Inn Town Campground mashes up all styles of outdoor overnights: tents, RV hookups, plus the glamp. The latter has beds with custom headboards, electrical outlets, and quirky upcycled art, like old teapots transformed into lamps.

Skip Yosemite (no cell service in the valley) in favor of a Gold Country getaway in the Sierra foothills. Nevada City’s Inn Town Campground has plenty of spots for regular old tents, but its new custom canvas tent sites are the way to go. The tents are outfitted with plush beds and linens, actual furniture and light fixtures designed by local artists, but the real draw here is the electricity–so you don’t have to go all weekend without Instagramming your Yuba River rafting adventures.

The campground invites and encourages people to bring their airstreams or tents — making the grounds accessible to everyone. Nestled behind the tall pine trees of the Sierras, next door to the Railroad Musuem, you’d never realize how close to town Inn-Town really is.

“We love seeing new campgrounds open, and we love it even more when these campgrounds are built by young, locally rooted entrepreneurs who have their fingers on the pulse of a new camping generation.”

“Something tells me it won’t be long before they’re booked solid. I mean, gorgeous right?! Their cabin tents are full of rustic charm that doesn’t feel forced, which I adore.”

Their newest campground project is yet another great contribution to add to their repertoire, for all of those who will come and enjoy the outdoors in our beautiful area.

Outside Inn owners ready to branch out on 15-acre site…. The year-round Inn Town Campground will offer pitch-your-own tent sites, luxury canvas tents with beds and linens, full RV hookups and the full service communal building.

Featuring a variety of camping experiences that include tent sites, RV sites and rustic canvas “glamping” tents, the Inn Town Campground will offer experiences designed tosuit different camping styles and preferences, from traditional to turn-key.

Plan a trip for spring or summer to visit the Yuba River’s emerald swimming holes and check out Outside Inn’s new Inn Town Campground.

“Inn Town Campground has some fun stuff in the works”

“At Nevada City’s new Inn Town Campground, the safari-style glamping tents boast cozy beds, vintage furniture and electric blankets — and the camp store traffics in gourmet marshmallows and sauvignon blanc. Ah, wilderness.”

Pitch a tent or do a bit of glamping at a spread that’s well-situated to the town’s walkable pleasures.

This summer, outdoor enthusiasts can finally have the best of both worlds — the experience of camping in the woods, and all the amenities Nevada City has to offer.

Nevada City’s newly opened Inn Town Campground offers deluxe canvas tents kitted out with private porches, plush beds, and the miracle of electricity.

If the pleasure of being one step from civilization is enticing, luxury “glamping” may be perfect for you, mixing the perks of being practically in Nevada City with the joys of sleeping out under lovely Sierra skies.  Reservations are being taken now for RV or tents sites or “glamp” it in one of the tent cabins, beginning July 2016.

What they call a “labor of love” will shift in a new direction Friday with the grand opening ofInn Town Campground, a 15-acre campsite nestled in a wooded land less than two miles from the heart of Nevada City, which the Thiems have built from the ground up.

Nevada City’s new campground promises a plush place to relax after a day of play in the Sierra foothills. Opened by Erin and Dan Thiem, Inn Town offers easy access to the Yuba River, exceptional road routes for cyclists and miles of hiking trails. The year-round campground has 70 total campsites, the majority of which are meant for pitching your own tent, but 15 customized sites bring a bit of style to nature, outfitted with custom beds and linens, furniture and electricity.

“My Experience: Amazing. Seriously.  As an avid camper, I expected to feel overly pampered by the convenience and cleanliness of a campground so close to town. But, after the first evening of s’mores around the community fire pits and watching The Goonies in the outdoor theater, I quickly fell in love.”

Your “excuse” (as if you need one) for going to Nevada City is that you for sure need to be one of the first of your friends to stay at the recently opened (and totally adorable) Inn Town Campground, an elevated and rather grown up camp site that’s a short drive or pleasant 25-minute walk from downtown Nevada City. You have a choice of a pitch-your-own tent site, an RV space with full hook ups, or—the one you’re going to actually pick because just trust me: a glamping tent.

“A new player on the scene, Inn Town Campground, just outside the Gold Country town of Nevada City, does it right with a colony of safari-style tents outfitted with electricity, comfy beds, fresh linens, artsy accessories and outdoor seating. Eight of the 15 tents are dog-friendly (one is also ADA accessible), and all share amenities including Wi-Fi, camp lodge, kitchen, barbecue area, laundry, showers and camp store. Regular tent and RV sites are dog-welcoming, too. Nevada City and neighboring Grass Valley are outdoor recreation magnets that also host many music and cultural festivals throughout the year”

“…an interview with the owners of two very unique accommodations for travelers in Nevada City, one a campground, one a motor lodge, each with its own unique twists”  Hosted by Mark Hoffmann and Tom Romano.

“On this particular warm weekend, we’ve headed north up Highway 49, thinking we’ll do a little camping, check out the river and stroll through the historic town — only to find the place so charming, we can barely tear ourselves away….Open just a few months, this new campground offers tent sites, RV hook-ups and glamping tents about a mile from Nevada City’s historic downtown”

Inn Town Campground, sited amongst the towering pines less than two miles outside of Nevada City, is open year-round and the perfect locale for small, two-man tents, family tents, vintage caravans or tent trailers; what’s more, a communal building is full of comfortable amenities like an eating area, TV,  showers and foosball. For the glampers in the group, they offer deluxe canvas tents with electricity, real beds and linens.

Every now and again though, a camptastic destination keeps on trucking right through the longest nights of the year, with a few tempting tweaks. Exhibit A? Look to the Inn Town Campground, the new Nevada City spread that is, as it says, very close to the pleasures of the funky, walk-around Gold Country village. It’s keeping open hours through the winter of 2016-2017, which means getawayers can enjoy things like the…

Recently, we staked our claim in a spiffy glamping tent at the new Inn Town Campground. It’s owned by two parents who get what makes for a happy family: tons of outdoor games for kids, local beer and wine for adults, and family-friendly movies screened under the stars (think Goonies and Despicable Me 2). Next door, the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum offers free train rides through the woods passing old mine shafts along the way.

Modeled after holiday parks in New Zealand, Inn Town Campground in Nevada City gives the non-camper a chance to be one with nature while still enjoying all the comforts and closeness of home.

The Inn Town Campground doesn’t feel like any American campsite you’ve visited. Perhaps it’s the glamping tents with fresh linens or the gourmet marshmallows roasting around the campfire that make the place stand out in the already-left-of-center town of Nevada City.

Inn Town Campground offers timeless summertime fun amidst the beauty and history of the Sierra Nevada.

The Inn Town Campground is one of the best deals around, offering furnished canvas “glamping” tents complete with electricity and real beds. You can even rent a revamped retro RV with a full kitchen and bunk beds, all tucked beneath the pines just minutes from town.

While Labor Day typically signals the end of the summer and camping season, Nevada City’s Inn Town Campground, located in the Sierra foothills is giving campers seven reasons to make it basecamp for a host of autumn outdoor adventures this year.

For things that go bump in the night, take a walk at the Inn Town Campground in this charming Gold Country town, where this spooky but self-guided Halloween walk winds underneath 130-foot towering pines. The campground also holds fireside chats this time of year, along with guided hikes to see autumn colors.

    Our Story

The Inn Town Campground is owned and founded by Dan and Erin Thiem, residents of Nevada City and local business owners.

Where was our love of camping born?

Dan spent his childhood participating in Boy Scout camping trips and got a taste of the Colorado outdoors.  Erin spent summers river rafting throughout California and beyond with her family.  We met at Colorado College and, after graduating, spent a summer driving to Alaska in our 1981 VW Van, affectionately named “Nora”. Our quest for adventure continued, including five years living in New Zealand exploring the country with our two Kiwi born sons.

Just before we returned to California, we embarked on a 2 1/2 month RV road trip around New Zealand.  During that trip, we visited many of the country’s serviced campgrounds, called “Holiday Parks”; these were the inspiration for the Inn Town Campground.  Now, back in California, we are often found roasting s’mores in our front yard and dreaming of the ways to get outside and sleep in the tent, or finding places to take our 1957 Cardinal travel trailer.

The Inn Town Campground was born from our love of camping, community and the outdoors.  Many of the park’s details were inspired by our personal experiences, like our open-air showers that sit beneath our towering pine trees, or our uniquely decorated Glamping tents that offer a fun break from the homogeny of daily life.  We have built indoor and outdoor spaces for people to gather to meet friends and to experience the community of stewardship that comes with enjoying our property’s intrinsic beauty.  Inn Town Campground is a reflection of our love of outdoor spaces and fun, natural areas for everyone to explore.  Imagine roaming free beneath the trees, riding your bike with friends or just sitting by a fire pit watching flames dance over a glass of wine. Camp, be outside, find new friends.

Come experience Inn Town Campground – make a weekend in the Sierras part of your story.  You can often find Dan out working in the campground and Erin taking photos, sharing through images our love for camping and the outdoors.  We hope to share it with you too!
