NEVADA CITY HIKING
Nevada City is a playground for the outdoor enthusiasts and the Inn Campground is passionate about sharing our love for adventures with our guests and locals.
Allow our knowledgeable staff to recommend some of our local hiking trails, a few of our favorites include: Hirschman’s Pond, Deer Creek Tribute Trail or South Yuba Trail along the Wild and Scenic stretch of the South Yuba River.
For kid friendly hiking we recommend the Buttermilk Bend on the South Yuba River or the Cascade Canal or Empire Mine Historic State Park.
If you’re looking for looking for more options, check out the trails in Malakoff Diggins Historic State Park, our favorite is Humbug Trail.
The Bear Yuba Land Trust Trails Portal is a great resource for your next Nevada City or Grass Valley hike. Other options to check out include: Tahoe National Forest, Emerald Pools, South Yuba River, Beale Falls in Spenceville Wildlife Area, Empire Mine Historic State Park, Point Defiance Loop.
SOUTH YUBA RIVER
No time to waste, adventures await!
For a map and directions to the South Yuba River, click here for information to Edwards Crossing, 49 Crossing, Purdons Crossing and Bridgeport.
Our top recommendations for dog friendly hikes include:
Empire Mine State Historic Park: Located in historic Grass Valley, Empire Mine State Park includes 14 miles of trails, open year round for hiking, walking your dog, or enjoying a horse or bike ride.
Buttermilk Bend Trail: This trail allows dogs on leashes. Buttermilk Bend Trail begins near Penn Valley, winding a little over a mile up the South Yuba River. Be sure to come in the Spring time to see the spectacular Spring wildflowers!
Independence Trail: The first ever wheelchair accessible trail in the country was unfortunately damaged in the Jones Fire. You can still hike the East Bound trail, great easy walk for the whole family.
Point Defiance Trail: This 2.5mile loop located near Bridgeport with access to a lake is the perfect way to get some exercise and then take a refreshing swim with your pup.
Deer Creek Tribute Trail: If you’re looking for a quick trip into nature, check out the Deer Creek Tribute Trail. Located right in historic Nevada City, this trail features a suspension bridge, which spans a portion of Deer Creek. And yes, dogs are welcome here!
