Hello September – Inn Town Campground

Hello September! Labor Day’s come and gone, the pool floats are drying out on the line, and honestly… this is when camping at Inn Town gets good. Cooler mornings, thinner crowds, and shoulder-season rates that make it easy to just book a night and go. Quick heads-up before you start planning where to swim, though (more on that in a second, promise it’s not alarming). Here’s what’s going on at camp this month: our pool is still open (unheated, so it’s brisk, but open) with the closing window creeping closer as we head into early October. Outdoor movie nights keep rolling Friday and Saturday evenings, weather permitting, and the camp store’s running its regular hours. The bigger note: Little Deer Creek at Pioneer Park currently has an active E. coli advisory, so we’re steering everyone toward the South Yuba River instead – still plenty warm for a proper September dip. One more small thing: early-season prescribed burns tend to start up in the foothills this time of year, so it’s worth a quick air-quality check before you head up the hill.

Need some convincing to come camp with us this month? Here are 10 reasons (we say some version of this every month, but this one we mean extra):

1. No tent, no problem. Skip the poles – our glamping setups keep you close to nature without sacrificing an actual bed, heated mattress pad included, because we’re not monsters.
2. Dodge the crowds. Kids are back in school, so midweek at camp is quiet, easy, and basically yours.
3. Raise a glass for California Wine Month. Toast the season at a local tasting room – see our wine tasting guide for our favorite Nevada City pours.
4. Dig into local history. Take a self-guided walk through Empire Mine State Historic Park while the grounds are still on summer hours (10am-5pm through the end of October).
5. Catch a show – there’s a lot on this month. The Center for the Arts’ September lineup is stacked: The Infamous Stringdusters (9/15), Al Di Meola (9/25), Bill Frisell & Harmony Five (9/27), and An Evening with Jorma Kaukonen (9/29). Heads up, Kenny Wayne Shepherd (9/13) and Samantha Fish (9/26) are already sold out, but plenty of other shows still have tickets.
6. Grab popcorn at The Onyx. Independent film, craft beer, and a 21-and-over crowd that actually stays quiet during the movie.

7. Swim smart. The South Yuba River is still warm enough for a real swim – just steer clear of Little Deer Creek at Pioneer Park this month, since it’s under an active E. coli advisory. Our pool’s also sticking around a little longer this season.

8. Give back to the river. Join SYRCL’s Yuba River Cleanup on September 20th, 9am-12pm – a solid way to spend a Sunday morning outside.
9. Slow down at camp. Bring the hammock, catch up on the summer reading pile you swore you’d finish, and grab a scoop at Treats downtown (we’re partial to the lemon custard, though we say that about every flavor).
10. Best reason of all: midweek discount rates. Come glamping Monday through Thursday this fall and save – we won’t tell if you spend the extra cash on a bottle from that wine tasting list up above.
