February Camping
Who’s ready for Valentine’s Day? We love the idea of a romantic camping trip, but really you can celebrate your loved one any day of the year… But if you are looking for some creative ways to celebrate, check out the InnSide Nevada City blog for some great local suggestions on things to do and ways to share the love. And if you don’t already follow along on the Outside Inn’s blog, hint, hint, there’s often a giveaway or two.
Nevada City doesn’t let winter get in the way of a good small town parade! Nevada City puts on several parades through the year, including the annual Chinese Lunar New Year Parade and the Mardi Gras parade. Chinese New Year festivals are unique in rural communities, and Community Asian Theatre of the Sierra, along with the Miners Foundry, are proud to present this family-friendly celebration, honoring the early Chinese Gold Rush pioneers and railroad workers of the Sierra. The celebrations to ring in the Year of the Rat will take place in downtown Nevada City this Sunday, February 9th starting at noon. Dan and I are honored to be the Grand Marshalls of the parade, so come on down and join the fun.
There are not many campgrounds open in the winter / off-season. That’s why the Inn Town Campground is open for RV and tent camping year-round. Glamping will re-open beginning in March. With the Commons and its relaxing, warm hang-out areas, plus fully stocked kitchen, camping in the winter at the Inn Town Campground is easy! So, for those of you who’ve got cabin fever and want to bring out your RV, tent or even just your bag of clothes, we welcome you. We’re only 45 minutes from Sugar Bowl and Royal Gorge, if you want to do some skiing or snowboarding. Or, if skiing doesn’t sound fun in the warm weather, Nevada City is home to a great network of hiking and biking trails.
We’re currently working on some projects, including better paths around camp, a new and improved outdoor movie area, new backsplash in the communal kitchen, new communal fire pits, expanded BBQ area by The Commons. On the back end, we’re working on updating some of our campsite information online and clarifying which sites work best for campervans and rooftop tents.
If you’re looking for some fun local events, we’ve got a photo walk and the Folk Trails Hiking Club hikes. And we’ve got some more activities coming later this spring, mark you calendars for our Spring Open House on Saturday, April 25th.
Otherwise, it’s been exciting the last few weeks as we help people plan their upcoming spring and summer camping trips. We’ve talked to people coming for birthday parties, family reunions, local events and weddings, it’s great that folks are getting into the camping spirit.
And if you made it this far we’re excited to announce that we’re having a Feb camping special to honor of February fun. Make any new reservation to stay at the campground in February and receive 15% off, act fast, offer ends on Sunday, February 9th.
To follow what’s happening at camp, make sure to check out our Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest or Twitter feeds. If you’re looking for more local ideas, check out the Visit Nevada City Instagram feed or the Visit Nevada City blog. Plus, every week I update our weekly events boards on Pinterest. As always, we love hearing from our campers and look forward to seeing you round the campfire.
