Winter Camping
Nevada City doesn’t let winter get in the way of good small town fun. There are several fun winter activities coming up, starting this weekend with the Wild & Scenic Film Festival. The festival is an annual staple in Nevada City, showcasing some of the world’s best and most important environmental and adventure films. Next month Nevada City will host both the annual Mardi Gras parade (the spectacle of beads, floats and costumes happens every year on the Sunday of President’s Day weekend) and the Chinese Lunar New Years Parade, (this year it’s Sunday, February 10th from 12-4pm; and we’re honored to say that Dan and I are the Grand Marshals for the parade). Come check out the parades and join the Mardis Gras festivities.
There are not many campgrounds open in the winter/off-season. That’s why the Inn Town Campground is open for RV and tent camping year-round. Although the season is much quieter than summer, there are a lot of people who enjoy staying at a campground when it’s not as busy. With plenty of nice weather throughout the winter, and more open availability, planning last-minute getaways is easy.
Our Glamping will open again in mid-March, so that will be another option for off-season camping in Nevada City. With the Commons and its relaxing, warm hang-out areas, plus a fully stocked kitchen, camping in the winter at the Inn Town Campground is easy! So, for those of you who’ve got cabin fever and want to bring out your RV, tent or even just your bag of clothes, we welcome you. We’re only 45 minutes from Sugar Bowl and Royal Gorge, if you want to do some spring skiing or snowboarding. Or, if skiing doesn’t sound fun in the warm weather, Nevada City is home to a great network of hiking and biking trails, all within minutes of the campground. Finally, for those who don’t have a RV, this is a great time to rent one or check out our Riverside Retro to see if RVing is the right fit for you.
So, what’s been happening here at camp? We’re currently working on some projects, including upgrading our family glamping tents (stay tuned for more details). We’ve also been improving some of the RV sites and making sure our facilities get the TLC they need to stay clean and well maintained. We’re looking at solar power generation options and even ways to improve our movie screening area.
Finally, If you’re looking for some fun local events to get you excited about a visit to Nevada City, we’ve got a photo walk and the Folk Trails Hiking Club hikes. Plus, check out our calendar of events for more information.
If you’re looking for more kid friend winter activities check out this article on Winnebago Life about Winter RVing with Kids by our friends David & Karen.
Otherwise, it’s been exciting the last few weeks as we help people plan their upcoming spring and summer camping trips. We’ve talked to people coming for birthday parties, family reunions, local events and weddings, it’s great that the warmer weather has folks in the camping spirit. We’re working on our kid friendly activities, both at the campground and suggestions around town. There really is a lot to do in our sweet little town, we look forward to your visit, whether its this winter or later in the year.
